Thanks for the reply. I should of made this clearer. I can actually get on the website, I get the error message after I get on. I'm on cable so I'm connected all the time. Thanks also for the website.

This may caused by the overload for everyone trying to download MSBLAST worm updates. Additionally you may possibly be effected by the power BLACKOUT. Don't do any thing drastic yet!

Give it a day or so and try again.

Actually try today because Microsoft killed the IP to the original Windows update site because of the supposed DOS attack of MBLASTER.

So now you will be going to a new windowsupdate IP address.

I fully agree with the reply by mflynn.

I was involved with the Blackout and am still having probems with some Web sites.

I also can not get to the Update site at times. ( even before the Blackout )

I also find it better to open IE and then select the Windows Update from Tools at the top.

    I'm confused.
    Once you say:
"cannot display the requested page "
    then:
"I can actually get on the website "
So, WHICH page cannot be displayed?

    You are welcome.

But DO NOT be surprised if it does not work again at some time or other.

I was doing the same earlier and then all of the sudden it would not go. From any link.

Give things a few days to settle down. Too much going on all at once right now.

I'm on cable and getting to the windows site okay. When I ask to
scan for updates I get the error message 0x 800A138F I'm not sure if I should sit on this for a while because the site is still a muck or if I need to follow instructions microsoft gives about deleting everything in programs\windows\ update\v4 except iuhist.xme I haven't received any tech bulletins lately so I don't suppose I've missed anything so far. Since I'm not affected by the blaster devil (win98SE), I'm not in a panic. Are other peolpe still have problems? Maybe the worm that came after blaster also overloaded the update site, since it was d/l the patch to machines infected with blaster.

This just happened to me, also. Did all the windowsupdate site suggestions, checked out the CookieCop setup, Norton AV, PopupStopper, etc. -- No result. I finally remembered I read somewhere (maybe here?) that you must have at least one language specified in the "internet options ". In internet explorer, go to the tools pulldown menu, select "Internet Options ... ". Under the "General Tab" select the "Languages" command box, add "English (United States)" or whatever if there is no languages present, and WALLA! WU works again!
    Good Luck

In my case it was an update of my host files that are blocked and Dexter did his job! The windows update site was mistakenly put in that list as an ad site to block.
