Does anyone know whether Microsoft will ever make a Windows operating system so that when a person pushes in the power button on the computer the desktop appears instantly without having to wait over a minute for the computer to "load "? Thank you.

Lets not put all of the blame for slowness in one place.

From my own years of experience the problem you mention is due to several reasons. Some are the OS and some are the OS Operator.

And others are hardware ( right from the MB and CPU on up ) related. Newer and faster with the proper drivers helps. Improper drivers can kill the best of systems.

The LESS software loading at startup helps. And the less loaded at startup and running in the background helps the general overall system speed quite a bit.

Sometimes it may not even be how much is loaded but the COMBINATION. Programs A & B may be fine. But if you add C: then all heck can go wrong.

Sometimes even the order that things are loaded hurts. That can occur even after windows gets loaded. A then B may be OK. But if B then A there might be problems.

Another little hint that I have found to make the machine boot ( MUCH ) quicker. And that is turn it on and walk away. If I stand here and wait for this thing it seems to take forever. But if I turn it on on the way to get my morning coffee it is loaded and ready to go when I get back.

    Hello abx,

When ROM chips get big enough and fast enough to store the OS on it.
