Hi guys, just got a new laptop with Vista & therefore Windows mail (ver. 6.0). Unfortunately this does lack the functionality of Outlook 2000 my former email client. Is there an addon for Windows mail that will send me a notification message & sound when a message arrives in a particular account?

I can do this with Outlook using the rules wizard, but I know there are problems with Outook 2000 & Vista & there is a lack of spam control compared with Windows mail so I'm quite happy to use it rather than Outlook but the email notification is quite important to me. I know there are suitable addon to Thunderbird 2.0 but I can't say I like the Tbird format much.

    Any ideas gratefully welcomed

    Cheers

rearadmiral - Welcome to the Board :)

Windows Mail is a development of Outlook Express which I run in XP and there there is a function under Tools > Options > General to play a sound when a message arrives. Afraid that it does not differentiate between accounts, but may well differentiate between identities - i.e. you could play a different sound for each identity. No doubt something similar in Windows Mail.

Cheers Pete, in fact identities are now obsolete in windows mail according to MS's blurb. The reason I mentioned Tbird was that it hasn't any way of differentiating between email accounts in its native form but there is an addon that would give the separate email account notification functionality that I'm looking for & just wondered if there was such an addon for Windows mail.

Thanx Steve but that only plays the same sound for every new message regardless of which account it came from & doesn't provide a different message for each account.

    Cheers

If I read the materials correctly you can get that feature with Outlook 2007.
