    Ladies and Gent

I need to pick your brains and I hope someone has seen this before.

Have a Dell 4300 P4 with 256 ram. Every time the system is turned on for some reason it detects new hardware where there is none. Then the Windows Installer does its thing then an error pops up so fast and goes away before I can really see whats its saying but it looks like a device failed and then 2000 reboots itself. Every single time this happens. Have run Dell Diags CD and nothing seems to be found wrong with the hdw. Have tried to kill the process immediately but this does not work.

Anyone a clue ??????? And thanks.

Sorry, never heard about this but try this:

Start > Settings > Control Panel > System. Select the Advanced tab, and click the Startup and Recovery button. Make sure that Automatically reboot under System Failure is unchecked...

Thank you was beginning to wonder if I was forgotten. I will give your suggestion a try if I can stay in the system long enough to get there. The rebooting is extrememly fast once the installer fails for whatever reason.

    Thanks again.

Nope that didnt work. Was able to uncheck the auto reboot but the next time it came up it started the Windows Installer function and then the application error and the reboot.

Is it possible that somehow the user profile has gotten
corrupted ??? And if so is there a way through the command prompt to remove the user profile and then recreate one when the system reboots. Like I said have run all the hdw diags I can think of and all is well there so it appears the software is somehow corrupted. Do I need to do a total reinstall.

Again your reply is very much appreciated. Is a very unique system so a total reinstall is not my choice because of the special apps that would need to be reconfigured, etc.

    Thanks again.

How many user profiles are on the PC and how many do you have access to?
