    Hi All

I have a friends computer that has a program of some sort that keeps downloading all his DLS usuage. I have done a spybot scan and removed a few problems, But something keeps downloading off the net. I will be trying antivirus tonight as his expired last month and will be getting a new antivirus today.

What I want to know is can windows firewall show what is accessing the net?

I am guessing it is a virus he has got, but cant do a scan until later on

    Cheers

    No.

Best thing is to read this post, then post a HijackThis log in the Removing Spyware & Viruses forum.

vzrboy--Just adding to what Arie has said.
Most firewalls, but not Windows Firewall, should ask for permission when a program wants to access the Internet. Unless you know the access is needed you should indicate No or Deny. The firewall (again not Windows Firewall) should also have a list of programs for which access to the internet has been permitted and a log might show what access has happened recently. You can change any previously authorized permissions to No/Deny.
That will not help any damage done by previously permitted programs, but will help control access in the future.
A good, free, firewall to install would be ZoneAlarm

    but there are several others.

vzrboy--I forgot to add that if/when you do use a third party firewall, such as Zone Alarm, you should disable Windows Firewall. It is generally agreed that only one firewall should be active.

vzrboy--Thanks for posting back. It is good to hear that the problems are fixed. Now that ZoneAlarm is installed, remember to turn off Windows Firewall. (Control Panel|Windows Firewall)
