Occasionally windows explorer will just up and die. Almost literally die! Its only when windows explorer is open though, to date anyway. I'll be looking through a folder and it'll just make the start bar disappear completely along with everything but the open window, if its AIM, I can still use that window but everything else is gone with my background behind it. Why does it just up and ***** up like that? What can be done to fix this annoying problem? Thanks for any help.

Hi Sephiroths_Son and welcome to the forum. I modified your topic title to describe the problem a little better.

If you have a regular XP CD, try clicking on start, on run, keying in
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
and clicking OK. The system file checker will look for missing or damaged system files and replace them. It may ask you to insert your XP CD at some point if it needs a file from there.

If you can't do the sfc or if you try it and it doesn't help, try rolling the system back to a recovery point from before the problem started. Instructions for that are Here.
