Windows XP Home Sp.3. All updates.

I am experiencing a problem with Windows Explorer.

It seems to work correctly in all instances of files and folders except one. This particular folder contains many photographs organized into subfolders. Whenever I select the main folder, Explorer locks up and I have to use Task Manager to close it and get the computer operating again.

Strangely, there is a program in the computer having to do with downloading and manipulating files and folders (Canon ZoomBrowser) which has an Explorer-like menu which seems to work OK. Whether or not this actually uses Explorer, I don't know.

Can anyone help me to fix this problem, or at least help me try to diagnose it?

    Thank you.

Yes, ZoomBrowser references Explorer or at least the same registry keys to get drive/folder/file details.

You might try disabling all non Microsoft Shell Extensions using ShellexView and see if that fixes the issue. If it does re-enable each extension in turn testing in between each until the culprit is found.

Thanks for the reply. I downloaded the software and took a look at it. Looks like a good tool to use. Unfortunately I've just had foot surgery and can't spend but a few moments at the computer each day for the next several days. I'll let you know how the Explorer problem turns out.
