Since the 11th April Windows Update... Every time I start my Computer the desktop loads but Nothing works not even my mouse pointer moves.
I have found a way to get it to work but I am sure it is not good for the computer!!!
After a few minutes I press the shutdown button again wait for a little time and then repress the power button and Start it in Safe Mode. Then after a little while I ask the computer to restart and everything loads and works.
Starting on the 10th April with:
Definition Update for Microsoft Security Essentials - KB2310138 (Definition 1.265.366.0)

    Installation date: ‎10/‎04/‎2018 00:36

    Installation status: Successful

    Update type: Optional

Install this update to revise the definition files that are used to detect viruses, spyware, and other potentially unwanted software. Once you have installed this item, it cannot be removed.

Altogether for this program there were 6 updates within 3 days.
    Then for
Security Update for Microsoft Office 2010 (KB4018311) 32-Bit Edition

    Installation date: ‎11/‎04/‎2018 00:18

    Installation status: Successful

    Update type: Important

A security vulnerability exists in Microsoft Office 2010 32-Bit Edition that could allow arbitrary code to run when a maliciously modified file is opened. This update resolves that vulnerability.

8 More all to do with Office 2010 and Security Essentials! As I have always installed optional updates I do not know what to do?
Any help would be appreciated especially as it states once installed on some of these I would be unable to Uninstall!

The information you gave was for Windows 10 not Windows 7. Is Microsoft Security Essentials the only anti-virus product you have on the computer?
Optional updates are never required, that is why they are called optional. What updates say you cannot uninstall them? Do you have Office 2010 installed on your computer?

Hello jholland 1st allow me 1st to say "Thank you". Everything came from my main computer running Windows 7. [sending this from my Laptop which runs Windows 8.1] Microsoft Security Essentials is not my main Anti-virus [as I have AVG Internet Security 2018, Unlimited Devices] so I do not use Microsoft Security Essentials. I do have Office 2010 only on my problem Windows 7 computer. It is the Microsoft Security Essentials that noted that the update can't be uninstalled. Bearing that in mind would I be able to Uninstall this program? I am however concerned that you say the updates were for Windows 10 on my Windows 7?
Thank you for you'r time to help me with these 2 issues.

Main thing, get rid of Microsoft Security Essentials. Uninstall it. The number 1 rule for anti-virus programs is only ONE must be installed on the computer. You use AVG you certainly do not need MSE so get rid of it. Then you won't be offered updates for it.

To uninstall it in the Search programs and files text box, type Appwiz.cpl, and then press ENTER.Right-click Microsoft Security Essentials, and then click Uninstall. Then Restart the computer. MSE should be gone.

The Office 2010 should be no problem, your problems are likely caused by the fact that you have two anti-virus programs on there.

I mentioned Windows 10 only because the links you gave say they are for Windows 10. Not sure why you gave those links.

Hi KARLES, I agree with jHolland about 2 Anti-Virus programs may/will cause conflicts if they operate together.
If I remember correctly - MSE is turned OFF if another AV product is currently used. ( I will stand corrected if I am wrong)

MSE/Defender are MS products and who better to control virus intrusion than the OS manufacturer?
I used MSE through XP to W8/8.1 without any problems.

As jH has stated - you don't need updates if you don't have the software/program installed and in use.
The W10 info is a subtle approach from MS about updating your system. Again, if you haven't got W10 installed - you won't need them at the present time.

I would think from your initial description of your problem - you probably need a fresh install of W7.
Running Chkdisk and SFC would be my first efforts.

Has KB2952664 been installed on the system? If so, uninstall it!

See the thread KB2952664 is back for reference. It is said to NOT promote Windows 10 anymore but I avoid that and similar updates like the plague!

I did as advised and Uninstalled MSE! I did a shut down and after a few minutes Logged back in with no problem. I will check about the KB2952664 and also either Delete or Un-Install it.
Thank you to everyone who has been such a great help to me. I will get back with the KB result if I have it.

Presume you mean that after the uninstall of MSE you had no more problems when starting computer, desktop loading but nothing working requiring the shutdown and reboot to safe mode. All is working normally now...correct? If so this shows the problem was caused by MSE and AVG being on the computer together. If so then all should be good.

[I mentioned Windows 10 only because the links you gave say they are for Windows 10. Not sure why you gave those links]
Those were part of the 8 updates which came in on my Windows 7 Computer???
The updates for my Laptop were totally different as there I am on Windows 8.1.
All is well as I do not have the KB2952664 showing in my updates.
I am now a very Happy Bunny [I Hope] Thank you all for your help.
