    Enviroment: win2k server
workstations: win2000 pro and xp pro

mapped network drives: It show the domain but loses the servers. I can still map them manually but why does it loses the servers views. How can I resolve this without rebooting the servers.

    Thanks in advance

I have 3 servers on a domain. You can map network drives using in this case the explore. On the tool menu you can choose the shared network folders and assign a drive letter to connect. The drive letters are there but you have to type the server and the shared folder to connect to. The problem is when you go to the browse menu the domain is present but the servers are not showing, so I have to type the \\server\share, folders for the users. They were present but not anymore. What can I do short of rebooting the primary server to see the servers again.

I understand now. Are you running 2K AD style domains or NT4 classic ones?

You for sure have a browsing issue. Have you checked the event logs on the DC (or PDC if classic) for related errors?

A server reboot might clear the problem for now but better to find the cause and get it fixed.

    2K AD. Got it.

And DC event log browser-related errors?

Do you have browser service turned off/disabled on all the workstations? If not, you should. The DC needs it for sure and one other server in case of problems would be good.

    In "services" (right-click My Computer then manage~services & applications~services).

The one you want is "Computer Browser ". Stop it and set the startup on it to "disabled ".

    error

This is the error i'm receiving: from the event viewer:
Source:(browser) the browser service has failed to retrieve the backup list too many times on transport\device\net_t_tcip_{3c4e682e-4ddd-4dc4-8ce9-84cdb4efcd01) the backup browser is stopping. Is this the reason i can't see the server from the arcserve backup job list. and why the network list don't show up when trying to map drives.

(edit note: acajt1, I merged this error message into the original thread to keep things simple - Newt)

    Certainly could be a symptom.

Take a look at Multihomed Master Browser May Cause Event ID 8021 and 8032 and at Browse List Problems When File and Print Sharing Is Not Installed.

I couldn't really be sure which applies to your setup from the information you posted.

It's easier on you and more informative for us to post the entire event log entry. Easiest way is to open the event and then click on the icon below the up/down arrows. That sends a text copy of the entire error to your clipboard and you can just paste it into a post here.
