Hello. I was hoping someone could help me. I am currently using Windows 2000 + service pack3 and I have a network card installed for my cable net connection on an Athlon 2000 XP+ based system.

I am wondering why, when booting, does Windows sit on the startup screen that has progressed to about half way and then stops for over a minute before continuing. Is this normal and is there anyway to reduce the 'think time'?

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

    Cheers,
    Dean

Dean - long pauses at just that point are normally from the PC trying to re-establish network connections. If there are problems or even just a slow network, you will see long pauses.

Suggestions would be to check the event logs and see if any problems are being reported. The Event Log service should be active by then. Also make sure any network drives you have mapped are NOT set to automatically reconnect at startup. If you do need the mappings, easiest is to create a batch file that does nothing but net use to connect to the share(s) you want and run it via the startup folder in All Users.

Thanks for your response Newt but after an exhausting search through Win2000 (and being very new to this particular O.S.) I found what was causing the issue.
For some reason the 'Startup and Recovery' tab had Display List of Operating System for ... in my case, 30 seconds. After disabling the option I have found Win2000 boots very quickly and what was a lag more like 90 seconds is no longer occuring.

    Cheers,
    Dean
