    hi

    there is a line in the win.ini file that reads

    win9x=open

    or

    win9x=closed

    depending on the station.

    Can anyone tell me what the significance of this line is?

    thanks.

    2000 does not use win.ini for startup. It is there for use by legacy applications that need it.

    As to that line changing or even the meaning of the win9x= entry, I have no idea. When do you see this happening and how did you happen to notice?

    Is there a problem with the system or was this just a thing you were curious about?

    I am using an application that seems to be using that line in the win.ini file. In the process of debugging my code, that line seems to be causing some issues, so I just wanted to understand the significance of it.

    Interesting. New one on me. If you say what app, we can certainly do more looking around though. Gotta be some information out there somewhere.

    Sorry. No can do. Its a 3rd party component for licensing, so I'm not able to say too much about it. I know that doesnt help but I was hoping that that line was not such an elusive thing!

    If the app is being written for NT systems, you should be able to eliminate win.ini I should think.

    But the line is certainly an elusive thing and obviously rare.
