    Hello everyone,

I had a problem with McAfee and tried reinstalling windows 2000.

I thought it would reinstall over previous version but it created another installation.

Now when I start the computer I get a dual boot menu showing me 2 windows 2000 OS and asking me to choose.

I now solved the problem with McAfee and I would like to get rid of the one installation of Win 2000 that I don't need.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    TIA

Unless you created a second partition you actually only have one install of the OS, but the boot.ini file was written to twice thus it thinks there is two installs, boot.ini file located in the c:\
This should be a hidden file by default so you may have to show all files in order to see this...

You can edit this file and remove one of the windows2k references.

Ideally you want to remove the first one.

Thanks for your help but I know for a fact that it is installed twice.

    One is using C:\windows

The other one is using C:\winnt

I was told that it happens because I created a different user.

So how do I remove it.

    TIA

Well it sounds like you are right and there is two installs in two different directories...

Since they are on the same partition, windows would have backed up previous windows settings so you could uninstall the second copy, BUT I would highly recommend...
doing a format of the drive and a clean install, if you try to remove one of them, you run the risk of system files being delete and or crosslinked...
    Etc...
