I got Win98 set up with dial up. I added a wifi USB key and set it up.
The web browser won't connect to the wifi and asks me to use the dial up.
The wifi is connected and the signal is strong. Yet I can't use it.

Is your ISP account set up to allow you connection this way?

Ah - that helps and I agree that if XP works the problem has to be with 98.

If you are trying to use USB2, I seem to remember that 98 has difficulty with it. Meanwhile, any additional details you can think of might help.

I am moving this topic to the 98 section since lots of folks there don't ever look in the networking section and probably someone can help you sort the issue.

The computer doesn't have a USB2 post; the device is a USB2 device.
Some wifi software installed tells me (under 98) that it can detect a network with a pretty strong signal, so the card is working...
Just a matter of getting Windows to let me use this connection.

Are you connecting via a wireless outer, wireless access point or directly to the modem???

Have you configured your "network "? I am on cable using a router (and 5 computer home network) and for best results, I had to sent the computer IP address and set the DNS configuration. I don't know if this applies in your case but...

Some WiFi software tht came with the key allows you to view wifi connections and connects to them. So I can connect. But FireFox won't use the connection...
I've got a Wifi USB key connected to a wifi hub to the net.
