I was having Blue Screen Lockups. Removed McAfee, and reinstalled Win98Se from C:\windows\Options\Cabs\Setup.
Now when I click the blue E, or the MSN Butterfly, I get the Dial-Up Connection, greyed out, and Connect to filled in, UserName Filled in, Password blank and not checked, and Connect Automatically checked. Iam then connected to MSN and am able to surf. Clicking the MSN Butterfly Gets me in without a Password, but with Internet Explorer, not the Msn Browser. Do not see a problem now but how about in the future?
Have a Compaq computer, 384Ram, 30G hard drive, 533MHZ cpu.
Once a week I run Scandisk, Defrag, Adaware, Spybot and empty temp files every day. Thanks for any help.

    Hi wahlroot
I'm not certain that I understand the question. Perhaps Nickhm's post will help a little? Are you still getting error messages since your re-install?

Have run IE repair several times. Lockups have stopped. Reinstalled MSN 8. Main problem, No password shown in Dial-Up Connection. Log on works, but wonder for how long.

The entire problem maybe the MSN Explorer. I have yet to meet anyone who got that thing working without any bugs.

See if the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article, Dial-Up Networking Password Is Not Saved has any information that helps.

Is the "Save Password" box also greyed out? If so, installing "Client for Microsoft Networks" client should fix that:

    1. Start > Settings > Control Panel
    2. Double click on the Network Icon
    3. Click on the ADD button
    4. Select Client
    5. Click on ADD
    6. Select Microsoft from the left
    7. Select Client for Microsoft Networks from the right
    8. Have your CD ready for files copying
    9. Restart your system when prompted.

Markp62, I am begining to think you are right about the MSN Browser. Msn tech support can not seem set it right.
Miz, Have tried the Microsoft sites. No help.
