I have never seen this message coming from AVG. For some reason it seems Avgscan.Exe [command line scanner, or dos scanner] was activated, and it cannot find a folder.
Do you have an email program set to do a scan for viruses?
What were you doing when this occured?

I was just at my desktop and entered something like "AVG scan email" or something like that in an address bar down on the taskbar. I have noticed that when my email program (OE6) first shows up ther is an AVG icon at the top in black and white, then when the program finishes loading, it disappears. Why is that?

When you use the command "avgscan email" the command line scanner is trying to scan a folder named "email ". It is not looking for email, and will not scan email in this fashion. The "avgscan.exe" is only for files and folders.
When the AVG icon appears in black & white, it essentially has something disabled. You have the OE plugin enabled, and some function of AVG is disabled, and that is the warning for you appearing.
Right click on the AVG icon in the System Tray and put a check mark for these.
    Check Boot Viruses
    Check Executable Viruses
    Check Macro Viruses
    Use Heuristics
When done, click on the 'Save Parameters as New Default ", Apply then OK.

Right click on the AVG icon in the System Tray and put a check mark for these.

Then Click on "Run AVG Control Center" to get to the selections Mark posted.
