Every time I boot up, recently(last 5 times), I get a message: "Sonic Update Manager/The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available." When I click on 'Close', or 'Ok', I get: "An installation package for the product Sonic Update Manager cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'UM.MSI'." It continues to throw these at me until I control/alt/delete, and end task. After that, I am able to continue with my regular use of my Dell Dimension C521.
The only thing I've done, recently, was install a newer version of MSWorks that came with my Dimension, and imediately remove all of Corel(I have Irfanview). I began recieving these messages after that.
I looked on Ad/Remove Programs, and noticed Sonic Update Manager, and Sonic Encoders use no space on the harddrive(no size designation).
Is it safe for me to remove the 2 "sonic" 'programs'?
Otherwise, how do I get the needed installation package?

    Hello Coleen,

Unless you think you need the Sonic Updater, you can get rid of the installation attempts with this microsoft tool, which is a cleanup (deletion) of installers:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301

When running this tool, highlight the Sonic installer and only that.

Before using: create a manual System Restore point. If you don't know how, type System Restore into Help & Support's search box.

    Regards - Charles
