Thought I'd be smart by downloading all required XP patches, updates etc for my home laptop via work's proxy server and burn them onto a CD rather than wait until for next millenium for the downloads to complete via dial up.

The only problem is that when I try to run some of the patches I get the following error message:

"WEUPDATE cannot retrieve information needed for setup from database "

Your only option then is to click OK.

I have scoured Technet, MS and the Web looking for a solution or workaround for this but thus far have drawn a blank.

Has anyone seen this before and have a solution??

    Thanks

    Pete,

Unfortunately as the OS we have at work is NT and my home laptop uses XP the Windows Update site is not an option. To obtain the patches and updates I run an update check at home, record the patches I need and then search for them in MS Support at work.

I can then download them quickly and burn onto CD for use later. Most of them work OK but on some this annoying WEUpdate error is occuring.

    Thanks

    Richard

    Richard,

The site I posted is the Windows Update Catalogue - it doesn't matter which OS you are using - you can download updates for any Windows OS to HD for installation later.

You could always use the normal Windows Update on your Laptop for those patches which give the Weupdate error or at least be logged onto that site when you try to load the patch - just guessing here :)
