hey, this is my first post here, and i figured you guys could help me out with this problem.

btw, i'm running windows xp on a dell dimesion 8200.

i first noticed this a couple days ago, in ms outlook. when i open up outlook to check my mail, menus are opened up and options selected...but i didn't choose any of them. like for example, i won't even touch the mouse or keyboard, and the File menu will open up (as if i had clicked "File" but i didn't!). i also noticed this problem happening in MS Word and Excel. like in word i'll be typing something up and all of a sudden word will open up a new blank document.

so far i've only seen this happening in Office programs. it doesn't happen in Explorer. and it doesn't happen every time, but usually. and it's very annoying.

i checked for viruses with my norton antivirus program and nothing came up. i even did a free online virus check. nothing. and as far as i know my mouse is fine. a computer smart friend of mine checked out my computer, thought it might be a trojan virus, but he said there's no evidence of that.

so i have no idea whtat's going on. any ideas?

Have you tried reverting to a restore point from before the problem started?

Also I'd use both Ad-aware and Spybot, Search & Destroy to look for spyware. AV software won't even see it.

And start~run~cmd followed by chkdsk /f then tell it Y(es) to doing the deed at next boot then reboot.
