    W95 b MS Plus v. 4.00.950B, 200 MHz Pentium, 64 MB RAM, 600 MB Free on C.
Computer on over night as is usual, shut down as usual in the morning, and rebooted. Noticed nothing wrong. There had been no power failures, etc.
Booted through "Starting Windows 95 ", then it shut down and rebooted suggesting "Safe Mode ".
Booted into "Safe Mode ", nothing is flagged in Device Manager, everything seems ok.
Everything available in Safe Mode seems to work ok, however I have no access to the CD-ROM drive.
Tried W95 install CD with W95 CD Boot Floppy from a reboot, but it never gave me any options, just booted to suggested "Safe Mode ", again.
    HELP!

ADDED 11/3/03: Apparently there had been several very brief consecutive power flickers the previous evening according to my spouse.

I get a message between the logo screen and dropping out that says "While initializing Device CONFIGMG...Windows protection fault...Restart computer... "

I tried a bootlog boot and it appears that the only LOADFAILURES are fonts (*.ttf files).

If anyone has advice on how to reinstall W95 from Boot CD Floppy and CD, please advise!

use a win98 bootdisk with cdrom support and install 95 like normal. Win95 CD has no CDROM support unless you made the disk .

Well I found this Technet article (Q187612) - and it does not appear to apply.

If you are going to re-install - try this first.

As system is booting tap the "F5" key - This should bypass startup and go directly to safemode (no boot menu).

If you can get the system up in safe mode - Open "Device Manager" and remove all items listed under "Monitors" - then remove all items listed for "Display Adaptors" - When empty those catagories will disappear. - Do not restart until you have removed both.

goto Start > Shut down > Shutdown. After 30sec - boot again, system will Plug and play removed items, it may rebuild the file you have currupted.

It may also need the W95 CD.

    Good Luck.
