I have a nagging problem that involves the volume control icon in the systray (Win2K). Normally, when the slider is moved up or down and the mouse button released, a bonk sound of increasing or decreasing volume is heard accordingly through the desktop speakers. However, for one user on the network, when moving the slider up or down and releasing it, an error-like sound is heard coming from the case speaker, not the desktop speakers, and the volume of the sound does not change regardless of where the slider is positioned. This problem does not occur for other users on the network. The sound hardware is a C-MEDIA PCI Audio chip (CMI8738/C3DX) on the MB. All help greatly appreciated. Larry

I have found the solution to this nagging problem. The fix involves adding a missing sub-key to the Registry. In my case, the sub-key was apparently glitched somehow and it disappeared. Adding it back corrected the problem. For those interested in the details of this fix, go to: http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/r1033961357. Larry
