Ok; I recently got a laptop (the first one ever actually since I'm usually a desktop kind of person but anyway I digres) its a Fujitsu Semans Li 2727, Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8Ghz, 2GB DDR2, 128MB Intel Graphics Card, anyway; fired it up for the first time and it has Vista home Premium on it..and about 10 other programs in the systrey I can only refure to as 'gunk'

basically Is there a way of getting rid of the gunk (without a lenghty and potentially disasturous uninstall..since manufactures realy, really don't like you getting rid of this stuff) and doing a fresh instal of vista without the optional 'extras' from the Restore discs; or would a restore simply...replace the gunk?

Second Question while I'm at it; does anyone know the max memory for this model Fujitsu's side isn't...helpful; also can I Duel boot Windows 7 onto it?
or do I need to shell out quids for a Vista OEM Home Pro DVD?

    Welcome to WindowsBBS;)

We would really need to know exactly what all of the "gunk" is and what it does:)

But, generally speaking, Click on Start-> Search and typing in MSCONFIG, you can look in the startup tab and probably uncheck/disable them.

You can go here to look up info on RAM:

    Thanks muchly dudes :)

Well thers a few things, Pcitoria, a google search bar in my task bar I'd like to be shot off that I can't seem to find an 'off' button for, a bunch of HD Facilitys and since the laptop has no HD ports, I'd like to be shot off, I miss the days when I could just buy a computer get an OS on it and that be it *nostalga moment* basically if I can get away with just Norton AV, Windows uodate checker and Drive/Security checker running; I got 3 months of free Norton so I'll be using that til April then that might be comng off depending on how I feel about it..so that may come off in favour of AVAST and Black ICE combo; since the eggs in one basket approach is usually a bad idea ;)

As for ram; yeah I know where to buy Ram and Crucial are absolutely recomended but I was more thinking of the actual limits of the hardware; since its already got 2 Gigs in it; can I actually Add another gig or is 2gig the upper limit since Fujitsu's site...is not helpful at least for my model cos I found Vista works great as long as you completly ignore the minimum and recomended requirements and go into 'overkill' territory though that may not belong here in this section so no worries

Third Question somwhat related - is Vista Ultimate worth the purchase if you already have Home Premium?

I would say no, but it depends how much value you would put on having:

    • BitLocker (Full drive encryption)
    • Encrypting File System
    • System image backup and recovery
    • Windows ShadowCopy
    • Offline files and folder support
    • Windows Fax and Scan
    • Support for multiple user interface languages
    • Virtual PC Express

Arie, Thanks for your reply; well out of that lot the only thing I could see my using would be Virtual PC I can pretty much get Open Source/GPL tools for the rest of those...and FJS already gave a nicy shiney imaging tool so I think I'll stick with Home Premium then for all my future Vista builds certainly saves me 100 odd notes thanks.
