Hello and welcome to WindowsBBS Forums.

Looks like a few nasties here, SDBot for one so we'll run that first.

Please do as instructed below in the order presented.

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and choose Install to extract it to its own folder on the Desktop. Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
    • Restart your computer
    • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
    • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
    • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
    • Choose your usual account.
    • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
    • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
    • It will remove any Trojan Services or Registry Entries found then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
    • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
    • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
    • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt.

    Then.......

Download AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 from HERE and save that file to your desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program
    • Once you have downloaded ewido anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
    • Once the setup is complete you will need run ewido and update the definition files.
    • On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
    • Next select the [Start Update] button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
    • Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
    • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine ".
    • Under "Reports "
    • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan "
    • Un-Select "Only if threats were found "
Close AVG anti-spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.

Reboot, into safe mode, this way:
    • Turn on the computer
    • Immediately begin tapping the <F8> key.
    • Use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode and press the <Enter> key.
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while AVG is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning process.

Launch ewido-anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
    • Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan ".
    • AVG will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
    • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions "
    • Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
    • Select the [Save report as[ button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
    • Close AVG and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the results of the AVG report scan, the SDFix log and a new HJT log as well.(Please edit out any cookie, Recyler and System Volume Information Folder references)

OK, can you access the 'Run' command from the start menu?

    If not:
Go here to Kelly's Korner[ and scroll down to Line 57. Look at the right hand side and click on "Restore the Run Command" to download the file. Once downloaded, double click on it, OK the prompt to merge with your registry and reboot.

Then let me know if you can access the cmd prompt. We need to be able to run that tool.

OK, just so I'm clear about one thing, you should be typing 'cmd', without the quote marks at the Run box, not cmd prompt

It's not likely we'll need to reinstall Windows, but may need to use the XP install disk to access the recovery console, do you have the install disk?

Well, not a whole lot remaining. Lets fix.

Open Hijackthis, select the [Do a system scan only] button and look over the following entries I have listed, check the boxes [] next to them and press the [Fix Checked] button. When you are doing this, make sure you have No IE windows, nor any other browsers open, including this one. Reboot if I have specified below, and post a fresh HijackThis log.

OK, the log looks great and glad to hear machine is free of malware problems.

For the firewall issue, try the solution on MS MVP's page
Let me know if that works for you.

Is this a new problem or was this pre-existing and part of infection, or does it at least appear as such?

Oh, so you have one PC that cannot hook up to the Net at all then? And one that does? Both on same router? Have you rebooted the router since this started?

    Try this:
Go to Start -> Control Panel, and choose Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually Local Area Connection or Dial-up Connection if you are using Dial-up, and left click on properties. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio button that says Obtain DNS servers automatically. Click OK twice, and restart your computer.
