Virus W95.CIH

    hi guys,

    Virus W95.CIH has affected my system and lost data, i hd 30GB hd with 5 partitions of one 8GB & four 5GB, now the problem is partitions are showing 2.35GB and all files are missing.

    Any one can help me in this regard to recover the data or partition in previous position.............offcource not with format with data:))))))))))

    You could try running the CIH removal tool from Norton's to see if it helps. Here is a little info on the virus.

    Best of luck with the removal. Hopefully you haven't lost too much.

    If the damage is done, your not...

    CIH is a extra nasty one. It attacks hardware and BIOS after trashing your drive, in some cases making the hardware unuseable without replacement BIOS. - (not flashing the BIOS, I'm talking removing and replacing the chip...)

    If it has allready caused data loss... I would clear NVram, boot to a CD (uncorruptable!), then write zeros to the drive... Then you might want to flash your BIOS if your extra paranoid.

    Also virus scan any backups on another system before copying them back...
