A quick question about a video problem have this computer which is around 2000 make and has a video card PCI with an asus motherboard. Question is the video card works the same in two different computers when the computer is turned on and running cant get an update for the video card as all I get is that its using standard graphics for windows PCI .
So I can only use the 16 colour and low screen pixels.
Could this mean the video card is corrupt . Can`t find any name on the video card at all the FD has no number either. I think it was made by maxtor but not sure can`t get information from them either.
The carde is in the computer with the asus mother board but tried it in a newer computer with a different mother board and same thing occurs. Use different monitors as well. Monitors are fine.

Certainly looks to be a driver (or lack thereoff) issue. If the video card was faulty then windows wouldn't post. You need to have a close look at the card for any clues, particularly on top of the main processing IC to get clues as to the chipset make. By entering some of those numbers in a search engine (Google) will probably link to some usefull information.
If you suspect it's a Matrox board then the main chip should have something similar to MATROX MGA, and some numbers. Should be similar for NVIDIA, 3DFX, ATI boards etc.

As it sounds like a generic video card, you will probably have to download the chipset reference drivers from the appropriate web site, but will need to know what model with the aid of the extra numbers I mentioned above.

Download and run Everest - this will give you any available details of the card under Display > Windows Video.

Well done Pete. Good idea. I have Everest installed and clean forgot that it identifies hardware such as the graphics card. Oh dear!

You're welcome, Maryelle - now let's hope you can find some drivers for it :)

Any problems just post the card details here.
