I currently have a computer that was built new in 1999. It is a Pentium II 400 with an SE440BX-2 Motherboard. I have the Diamond Viper 550 16MB AGP Video Card and I believe it is starting to go out. Recently I have been noticing after the computer has been on for a little while, the screen starts to flickers go a little dim and flickers some more. My monitor is fairly new, it is a ViewSonic VE170.

So what I am asking is: is it the Video Card the first thing I should be analzing to be the problem?

I am clueless when it comes to Video Cards. It has been 6 years since I have been in the market looking for video cards. The last couple of days I have been looking online and seeing that Video Cards are 8X and 4X AGP, which I am not sure are compatible with my AGP slot? I was doing some searching trying to understand this new terminology, but I am still confused on how to identify what video card will work with my computer.

I did find that my AGP socket has support for a 3.3 volt device. I am looking for recommendations for a relatively inexpensive but decent video card that was comparable with the one I currently have. I do not do a lot of gaming, but some photos. I would rather not spend too much money on replacing this component at this time. Is there anything $70 or under that would be the equivalent or better than the Diamond Viper 550 that I already have? I have been completly satisfied with my current Video Card, so anything comparable or slightly better would be fine.

Thanks for any recommendations and help that you can provide me.

    Andy

Here's plenty more than what you need for less than $35.

    ;)
