    Hi Folks,
New to the BBS. I have a recurring little Windows 2000 demon. When I'm online I get a Norton security window that says "version.exe is attempting to access the internet" I have no idea what version.exe is or does. It exists in the C drive but for what I don't know. Any thoughts??

    Thanks!

    Newt,
Thank you soooo much for the info. You were right on about the virus. What I don't get is why Norton doesn't pick it up. I ran a full scan and it comes up with 0 infections. Anyway, I deleted the values using regedit and that seems to have stopped the little bugger. Your help is greatly appreciated!

    Steve

Maybe an explanation Here for Norton not seeing it. It's actually more malware/spyware than traditional virus.

Other possiblilty is more dire. There are quite a few nasties around these days that will cripple your onboard AV so it appears to be working but really isn't. You could have picked up one of those. Best I can suggest is to look in Quicklinks (in my signature) and pick an online AV scan site and let it scan your system. They aren't easily fooled so if something bad has crept in, an online scan should find it for you.
