Internet Explorer asked m for my Validation Code when I tried to download IE Beta2. My computer is brand new, and there were no XP installation discs with it. I had a validation code for XP on my old machine, but have no idea what or where it would be by now - it's been years since I installed it there.

How can I find it? I assume it would be a new number, since it's a whole new setup.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Validation Code ", but if you need your product key for Windows, run a Belarc. It's not a bad idea to run and print one now and then anyway, just so you have the keys on file, and could reconstruct your set up, if needed.

    Be aware.

Microsoft ties OEM validation keys to the original motherboard.
You’re buying a computer with XP installed. You can NOT transfer that software to a new computer, or a new motherboard – according to Microsoft. If you re-bought the retail version – you can.

If you bought a computer with an OEM version n don’t have the disks- want to do a fresh installation – you’re out of luck. Need the software from somewhere.

If just missing the key. You can do Johanna’s advice or if a non–working version you can always do a web search for Microsoft CD keys –.

Microsoft would like to patent the alphabet. So far they haven't succeeded

Are you talking about WPA (windows product activation) or are you talking about windows validation? It sounds like the latter. If so, go here and go through the validation process and then try downloading the software. I'm surprised there wouldn't be a link for it on the page where you download IE.
