    Dear Friends,

My Computer recently had an USB port problem. So I took it to my hardware guy for a thorough look.

I also took alongwith my USB Flash Drive so that I cud check then and there myself.

I handed over the same to the hardware guy and he tried to check my Flash Drive at different ports(front & Back). And in this course somehow unfortunately my Flash Drive stopped working. I think it crashed.

Could someone please suggest if there is a way to recover data from my Flash Disk as there was some very important data stored in the same ?

Can the Flash Drive be made functional again ?

    I am really worried. :(

    Please provide help.

Pictures are files and so this should work with any file.

    Mantoj and Sparrow,

Just yesterday (without thinking), I "moved" some photo files from my Sony Cybershot to my computer which deleted the files from my memory stick. When I checked my camera it didn't recognize any files remaining on the memory stick. I did have the photos saved but I would have preferred to have left copies on the memory stick for another function.

When I saw this post, I downloaded the PC Inspector Smart Recovery and used it. Although my camera told me there were no files on the memory stick, the Recovery program reconstructed all of them and I was able to save additional copies to the hard drive. Only two minor things I noted. I got 3 copies of one photo - may have happened when my screen saver kicked in and I had to move the mouse. Also, I wasn't able to save a couple of video files - not a problem because I didn't want them anyway. This is the first time I have used the program so I may figure out how to save the videos on future uses.

So - thanks for all the information you furnished me in this thread and to Die Detenretter and their program.

Did you find out the source of the port problem, if not, don't run any important USB devices on that computer. Test the drive on another computer until you find the source.

Does the drive seem "dead "?

If you can access/see the drive on another computer and the suggestions for recovery (Smart Recovery) do not work, try running Error Checking (chkdsk or Scandisk, depending on your version of Windows) on the drive.

    Matt
