I just got a new Dell for Christmas and splurged for the optical mouse. I love the mouse, but the cord is too short. I would like to buy an extension, but I'm a little confused. I live in a small town and Walmart is about all we have. I bought a Belkin USB cable that says it is to "extend the length of a USB cable" "A plug/A receptacle. Fastest 12MBits/sec Transfer Speed ". It's 10 ft long, which is longer than I need, but it's the only choice they had. On the back it says "USB devices are limited to a total of 10 ft. on low-speed devices such as mice ". Does that mean the total of the original cord and the extension? If so, am I going to be able to use this one or do I need to wait until I can go into the city to a computer store? I haven't opened it yet.

Can someone offer some information and advice?

    Thanks,
    pattipat

I think you should wait until you can get into the city - the info given on the box is correct - max of 3m - 9ft 10 ins. That would be the total length - extension plus existing mouse cable.

If you have a front USB port on the tower you might gain a bit by using that temporarily.

For an explanation see here under USB cables, Q1
