    hi,
i really need help upon formatting and then recovering my computer, my computer SPECS are:

    VIAO Sony computer
    Windows XP Home Edition

I have 4 recovery CDs (CDs Vol1,2,3 & 4) supplied with my computer, called: 'Product Recovery CD-ROM for SONY PCV-RX504'

I want to format my computer and then recover the default software, however (the software: VAIO System Recovery Utility) i experience errors when i insert the first CD when it is halfway through recovering the C Drive. Up to 100% on CD Vol 1 and 26% in total, the following error message appeared: 'Stream Reading Error', i do not understand what this means and this is the only method of Operating System recovering available.

And sometimes when i restart the computer with the recovery CD in the CD-ROM after the unsuccessful recovery installation, such messages are displayed on start-up: 'INF file txtsetup, sif is corrupt or missing, status 32768 setup cannot continue' and another error message: 'Trap 00000006 Exception'.

Please help me find a method of recovering my computer safely and errorless, i have spent hours trying to fix the problem.

    Thanks

    A few of follow-up questions:

    1) What problem led up to your need to do the system recovery. This will help dx the problem.

    2) When you say you're trying to do a system recovery, do you mean a 'clean' install from the recovery disks you were provided with your Viao, i.e., not just trying to repair the XP installation, but rather wipe the hard drive clean and restore it to the state it was in when it came from the factory? This latter option would literally delete the contents and reformat the hard drive, so you'd lose any files you didn't have saved elsewhere (e.g., CD-R, Zip drive, etc) and you'd have to reinstall any software you'd loaded onto the PC.

    3) Is your PC still under warranty, and, if so, have you contacted Sony's tech support yet?
