A friend just called. Her son was playing a game on her XP Home, and now her desktop is upside down. The boot screen is right side up. I went through the properties dialog with her, but it's still upside down. Someone- please save me a drive out there and tell me how to tell her to flip flop it back! TIA

    Johanna,

Best bet is to re-install the video drivers - not come across this one before :)

    Hi Johanna

Very likely a video card setting. nVidia has this under "Rotation Settings"
(4x choices, you want "0 degrees "). If you have icon in sysTray, right click will bring up the option. Don't have as clue what the "real life" use of this option is for. Until your friend can find the setting, turn the monitor upside down. Sounds crazy, but it's a temporary solution.

Be carefull running a monitor upside down as this can cause screen magnetism problems requiring a degaussing wand to cure. It CAN cause permanent screen alignment problems, although this is rare. Never turn the monitor over whilst it's running as the above will most probably occur. Heat build-up could be a problem if the monitor is left on for extended periods as heat rises and will settle on the PCB instead of through the case vents.

    Hi Paul

As I stated "temporary ". When trying to "find" the solution, it becomes alittle difficult to read upside down.
:D Of course, could stand upside down, but that has risks also. :D
Thanks for the "Heads Up" safety considerations.

    THANK YOU!!
I would never have thought of the graphic icon in the system tray because I don't have one!! But, she did, and I talked her through it. We found the rotatation settings and restored it to "normal ", rebooted, and everything is just right now. Good thinking, Dennis, and thank you to all who responded! It's fixed, she's happy, and I learned something new again today.
    Cheers from Ohio!

    Hi Johanna

    Glad you found the setting.
The real clue was..... "Her son was playing a game on her XP Home, and now her desktop is upside down" (pesty little rodent's). :) I just grinned :) and started to type the proabably cause. My concern was having nVidia card was one thing, since they do NO manufacturing, which company made hers and how difficult would it be to find the setting. We had alittle luck on this one.

    Dennis,
I have 4 kids, all rotten, and I don't let them anywhere near MY computer! When I'm working, I hit Winkey-L as much as Control-S!! Anyway, my friend thought I was a frigging genius when I called her back, but I had to tell her the truth. She is going to bring over some apple cobbler tomorrow, and I will eat it in your honor! :D
