Upgrading to Pro

I just want to make sure that I get this right.

I bought a computer with Windows XP Home and I wanted to upgrade to Pro. I bought the full version of Pro. Anyway I just wanted to be sure that if I do an upgrade (which is the recommended option when you run the setup from Windows), will I lose all my settings and users or will I still have them after the upgrade. I just wanted to make sure because I've had a hard time with this before.

Do all your backups, and then a clean install. You will save yourself headaches down the road.
