I am upgrading system from Win98SE to a new machine with Vista Premium. They used Netscape 6.2 to browse the web and email. I have backed up the hard drive on the new hard drive and would like to know what email program I can use to restore the email?

    Thanks

    Welcome to the Forum, Wilber69!

    Wilber,

Your client, or "they ", are using Netscape 6.2, or is that a typo, and you meant 7.2? Version 6.2 dates back to '01, and I only vaguely remember using it.

They definitely need to upgrade, and my two suggestions would be SeaMonkey, which is a suite, and almost identical to Netscape, with the exception of being exceptionally faster, more secure, and up to date in every way.

I also highly recommend Firefox, a stand alone browser, and its companion stand alone email client, Thunderbird.

To move Mail from the HD backup to a new installation of whichever Mail Client you elect to use:

    With the Browser/Mail Client closed:
Open Windows Explorer and browse to the Mail Account folder backup
Copy all files without the MSF extension, e.g.,
    Inbox, Drafts, Sent, etc.

Copy these files to the new Mail Account Folder letting them overwrite the existing files.

This is assuming that you have set up your Mail Account, which must be done first.

Let us know if you have further questions.

    Thanks a lot Ramona,

They are using Netscape 6.2... And yes, definately time for an upgrade. :)

It was too late, they wanted their computer back but they still have the old one (1998) if they ever need anything. I also backed up the hard drive on to the newer one.

    Thanks for your help!

    Wilber
