The update "Security Update Microsoft Virtual Machine (Microsoft VM)" has been sitting on my machine for weeks. When I try to install it I get the error message "This setup will only upgrade over an existing version of the Microsoft VM "

How do I get rid of it?

    Thanks

Hi Pete77, I had a look to see if I had this update on my machine and can't find it mentioned. I went into Windows Update and found others have had the same problem installing it. My suggestion would be to Delete and go to Windows Update and Download from there. Cheers Neil.
    ps. I think it's KB816093.

Thanks, I have tried that. I obviously don't have the Microsoft VM on my machine so the update does not apply and I would sure like to get rid of the update prompt on my task bar.

Hi Pete77, I've Googled and found that this is a problem which seems to be linked to SP1 and could be malicious. Have a look at this link:http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=336827 At the end one of the guys had picked up an uninstall program from Majorgeeks which he said worked in removing the old Java VM install problem. You might try as he did without warranties. The alternative is to wait and see if one of BBS gurus has a look at your post. lol Neil.
