I am a beginner with Windows. My problem is with lag time staring Windows 98. I have a bunch of start programs that I don't even use automatically starting with Windows. I've tried to erase them from the startup folder on the start menu but they're not even listed. What else can I do? I just don't want them to start with windows.

Grimmreaper--Click Start|Run|type msconfig|OK|Startup tab. You will see most of the programs that start on boot.
If you know what you don't want, uncheck the box to the left, click Apply|OK.
If you need help in deciding what you want to have run

I personally only have the following
    ScanReg
    SysTray
    Firewall
    Antivirus
    DrWatson
P.S. Do you have a spyware detector on your PC? You might run a scan with it every week or so.
    AdAware

Be sure to update to the latest reference files before scanning.
