    Strange one here:

    Using Thunderbird latest build.

Mails I receive that have lines beginning with the word 'From' are
indented by a quote mark (>). This only happens on a new line or new
paragraph and not on a new sentence in the same paragraph.

    For example:
    From here to eternity...
    appears as:
    >From here to eternity...

Note that the line is NOT treated as a quoted line as it isn't a
different colour - it merely has the > prefix.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

Latest build? I have TB1.0.6 and it has never done it, same for 1.6a1 nightly.
I see some other weird stuff, but I expected, since I am using a standard release, as well as a nightly.
I tried to play with my settings, and I got nothing unusual.

Maybe it is one of the extensions causing this? I have uninstalled all of them but still find the same fault. Am using 'Mail Redirect', 'Quick Quote', 'Quote Colours' and 'Show SMTP Username'

I don't know how good a job uninstalls of extentions do, but whatever you have is located in your Profile. I suggest that you close TB, and find your TB profile, and delete the Chrome folder. If you have any Extention folder, delete it.
I never tried Safe Mode in TB, butI was told that it is a good approach with stubborn extentions (Start|All Programs|Mozilla Thunderbird|Safe Mode.
You will have to feel your way. But, whatever you do, should be done with TB closed, from the Hard Drive, if it does not work with a normal removal.
it is strange that the use of < has disappeared to the point that software like eCleaner which could clean up such mail, has been stopped.
But, does it come from anyone? Tested by send e-mail to yourself?

Got the following answer from another forum. Seems my 'problem' is a known bug due to the way that TB implements the mailbox structure/format.

    1. See this bug.
I suggest that your reading should include comment #8,
on the different mbox file formats.
    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=194382

    2. More information about mbox file formats.
I suggest you pay particular attention # 1.1, 'From' quoting.
