Periodically, out of the blue, while running IE, I get the following message:
    Runtime Error! Abnormal program termination.
    Program: C:\windows\explorer.exe
System now decides to leave a blank screen(except for screensaver). Ctrl-Alt-Del will not restart system. I have to hit the shut down button and naturally lose all that might have been. :( This just comes on from nowhere.
Any ideas here as to what could be the problem would be great.

    Hi Claire,

I think your problem may be the screensaver.
    Try any of the following:
    1) Discontinue the use of any screensaver.
    2) Change to another screensaver.
    3) Change the amount of time before the screensaver starts.

I would recommend discontinuing the use of any screensaver. To me, they are useless and always seem to interfere with something.

    Perhaps of some help
    http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/R/runtime_error.html
Any chance you are running out of memory? See the link to PC Guide at the bottom of that page.
Does the error message describe the "runtime error" in any more detail? There are other solutions for VB (Visual Basic) Runtime Errors, for example.
P.S. What versions of Windows and IE are you running?
