I have a PC that boots both W89se and XP. W98 boots off the C partition, and XP boots off the F partition. I can see all of the partitions regardless of which OS I boot.

I have Norton Systemworks available when I boot W98, and I have been using it to defragment when I'm running W98.

My question is this. Would it be OK to use Norton Systemworks to defragment the F partition (XP's main partition) when I have W98 booted? And, would it move and defragment the "unmovable" files on the F partition?

    Thanks.

    Hello rlambert7,

XP is running FAT32 file system which is why 98 is able to see XP's files.

As far as I know, not having ever used NSW, you can use it to defrag F.

The unmovable files is the page file - pagefile.sys (Virtual Memory) for XP. You can delete it using 98 or XP, XP will re-create it. I don't know whether NSW will move it, might because it doesn't belong to 98.

FYI: For a discusion on page files
