So I think I have a virus on my computer and what happens is that everything looks normal on my desktop but i try to run a program and the computer loads for a second or two and then nothing happens. I tried to use ctrl-alt-del to go to the task manager and see what i could find in there, but that doesn't come up either. I'm on my roommate's computer and I was hoping that someone who reads these posts knew of a way i could manually go in and try and remove this virus or knew of a another website that would be helpful in solving this problem. I think part of the problem is this program i downloaded for an antivirus program called Panda Titanium Antivirus and i'm trying to delete that but it's currently running and i have no way of shutting it down since i can't get to the task manager. Anyway, anything helpful would be much appreciated. Thank you.

See if you can run an online virus scan at RAV. Check the box to autoclean. If any files are infected and uncleanable, click the report button then copy and paste it here.

Download HijackThis.exe from here. Save it to a permanent folder (I create a new folder in C:\ named HJT). Open and hit scan, then save log. Once it is saved it will open in notepad. Select all from the edit button, copy and paste the results here. Don't fix anything with it yet! Someone experienced with the logs will advise you.

    Alright

Well thank you for your help on this matter, the only issue is that i can't get to the internet, no programs will run. I can access all the files on my computer through the browse feature on the run program in the start menu, but no programs will open. I was wondering if there was like something you can do when your computer first starts up, like running it in a different mode or something. Thanks again.

    Progress

Ok, so I've made some progress and can now get to the task manager from ctrl alt del. There is this program that i installed and it's the one that's been causing problems, that Panda Titanium antivirus. I try to end the process for the programs relating to that antivirus program and it says i can't b/c they are being used. Is there some way to get to those files before windows boots up and/or make it so they don't run as soon as windows starts up. I deleted them from the startup folder but they still seemed to run. Thanks again for any help anyone could give me.

What operating system do you have? Did you try to uninstall the program from add/remove in the control panel? Will the control panel open? Does anything work from the start button? Will the computer boot to safe mode? When you open task manager and choose new task, does a run dialog box open?

Go to Start, then Run, type in 'Msconfig' and press Enter. Click on the Startup tab, and simply uncheck the AV program. Then, if XP, click on the Services tab, and put a checkmark in the box next to 'Hide Microsoft Services'. Then if the AV program is listed there, uncheck it.
