I think my Windows Update is corrupted and have seen details somewhere for deleting all files associated with Windows (Web) Update, and then downloading it fresh and reinstalling the engine fron the Web site, but I cannot seem to find it anywhere.

I know you delete the activex control in Internet Options,Clear Cookies and Cache but I think there are a few other files to delete also

Sorry Daizy,Been here a while, just never posted

Windows XP Home SP1, with all the current patches and service pack updates.

Think I may have solved the problem....my Norton Internet Security was not configured correctly.Browser Information being witheld was preventing me getting any further than the welcome screen.

Not wanting to go online with it turned off in these times,I added the Windowsv4 Update Site manually in Advanced Settings of the Firewall, and configured it to allow information about my browser for that particular site, and all is well now.

Sorry for troubling you good people :)
