I have a p4 2.8 w ht I used to have on a ECS 661fx-m. That board died and I've elected to replace the whole motherboard /cpu (see posting under the XP group), but I also have two older ECS Boards with the 533 FSB and no ht... but if I could underclock this p4 and not bother with the ht, I might be able to build a backup machine with some other old parts I have around here.

Probably the person on the planet who ever wanted to know about underclocking. Oh, I have no idea what their Bios's are capable of... never had them installed. One of the local repair stores cleaned house one day and gave them to me. I do not have any other 478 pin 533 fsb Intels.

All out of computer money now... only parts I can get now will have to be old used freebies from somebodies junk drawer.

Likely not possible, but thought I'd ask.

    Thanks

Is the ECS Boards with the 533 FSB the same cpu socket as the actual 2.8 processor?

I'm pretty sure the mobo must be a 533/800 mobo to be able to use the chip.

    478 pin

Yes both the 533 boards are 478 pin.

Was just curious. After I get the new one built I may just try it. Likely will not boot... but doubt if could hurt anything. But then, what do I know? Maybe I'll just order up a cheapy 800 fsb that will work. This old Athlon 850 (my current backup) is even getting a little old for that... plus it has issues (software) and needs a rebuild of the hard drive. But still need another backup ready when I do that.

    Thanks DEM
