I downloaded DB and unzipped it with JustZipIt.

There are 3 files: 2 of them are txt and I can open and read them with
    NotePad.

The 3rd is the exe file, I presume, and I can't open it. It is called: "dbxp.msi ". When Acrobat 4 tries to open it, I get this error message: "Error opening this document. File does not begin with "%pdf- ".
I can't open it with NotePad or Explorer.

Would another compression tool help or a later version of Acrobat(I am using 4 because it is supposed to run better on older machines and it does.)?

    I am running W 98 SE.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    .msi = Microsoft® Windows® Installer

I had a similar problem after installing Acrobat 6.0. Install routines requiring Microsoft® Windows® Installer (.msi), went into a loop trying to load Acrobat 6.0 reader. Adobe provide a fix, but if I recall correctly required you to go through 2 additional updates ... 6.01 and 6.02. The process did correct problem. You say your using Acrobat 4. Any possibility you installed Acrobat 6.0 and then removed it?

    Success

    Hi Dennis,
Pretty good results for my posting in the wrong forum with a non-pertinent title. On the 4th attempt, I downloaded Adobe 6.01 and was able to
    instll DB with it.

I noticed during the installation of Adobe that there was a "instmsia.exe ".
I think this is MS installer Adobe.

On the 4th attempt, I used the download manager and disabled Zone Alarm
    and AVG.

I'm confused about whether or not to turn off ZA and AVG when downloading.
Supposedly it's not safe but many programs say to.

    Thanks for your help.

Glad everything worked out. Not knowing your previous install history for Adobe Reader per version 6, but it would appear you had a damaged .msi routine.

Above is a very good question .... Please post a new thread here.
