Excel problem??? - If so possibly in wrong location. Cannot identify if problem is with XP, notebook or Excel.

Cannot drag spreadsheet to be able to work on 2 programs at the same time. If I get 2 programs on screen when I click on one to get data the other disappears.

    Using Word 2000/Excel/Windows XP

    Guidance please.

    Thanks venny

Try clicking on WINDOW > ARRANGE and tag the "Tiled" box. You can further select whether you like it horizontally or vertically tiled.

    Cheers. :)

Zephyr: Thanks for the quick response. Yes, that works for spreadsheets. My problem also lies in my faulty explanation. I will try to improve:

    1) I open a spreadsheet and open a portfolio from Yahoo. Now I want to copy data from the Yahoo page to the spreadsheet (not click edit and copy). I just want to view the information and manually type in the data on the spreadsheet.
    2) I then reduce the spreadsheet by dragging. Problem cannot drag spreadsheet.
    3) Strange as I did this for several months and now cannot.

    Hope you can continue help.

    Thanks venny

OK Venny I think I understand better now. There are a couple ways you may find useful. Get both programs up and running and then right click the Taskbar and select "Tile Windows Horizontally" or "Tile Windows Vertically." That works for most people. Both programs have to be operating in full screen mode. Do not use the "Minimize" (-) button on either prior to this. To make sure, just click each Task Bar icon alternately to ensure neither is minimized.

Another way is to start both programs and then open each one and click the "Restore Down" resizer button at the top right of the screen, between the - and X buttons. Then you will be allowed to drag the window edges to size it as you like. Do that for each program. Then you can drag the entire reduced program screen by grasping it at the very top on the Title Bar. That's like a manually performed tiling of the two screens.

I hope were on the same page now, sometimes it's hard to communicate this way.

Post back if I'm still off target. :)

Zephyr again many thanks for the help but this thick head not working.

    1) I click the windows horizontal or vertical under the windows arrange drop down menu. Yes the very top icon for between - & X buttons is clicked but I cannot get the drag icon. Yes I can click on the drag icon from the lower (- & X) icons on the spreadsheet. This just allows the spreadsheet to be dragged but when you bring up the second program and make first click on spreadsheet poof it is gone.

    2) Your second suggestion. "Click on the icons at very top of screen" Yes yes this is where I place my problem. Clicking here provides no action. The drag arrow does not appear at either extreme right or left of screen.

What frustrates is that this power existed at one time. What did I do to lose it?

    Many thanks Venny

Problem solved and I do believe it was related to XP and not Excel. Through other contacts received suggestion to check monitor for screen size. First attempt failed but did notice that screen display width changed. Then went to monitor display and changed "theme setting" to XP standard. Presto spreadsheet width reduced ever so slightly but allowed doubled headed arrow icon used for dragging appear.

    Thanks for your help Zephyr.

Thanks for the feedback Venny1, it sounds like you had your screen width set so high that you couldn't get a grip on the edges.

That shouldn't have stopped you from doing a normal 'Tile" arrangement by right clicking the Task Bar but I'll not push that any further. You are a winner, that's all that counts! :)
