i have a friend running windows xp (i'm not sure about the system details)...
i got an e-mail that read:
"Hey, thanks to you I was able to copy all of the files I wanted to on to a CD disk.

UNFORTUNATELY, I inadvertently put some of those files on "My Documents" on the hard drive. No problem I thought. I will just delete them.

Before I made a lot of updates to windows after the blaster worm thing, I just clicked and dragged a file to the recycle bin on the left to delete it.

Now I have to highlight the file and click on "delete file" in the left. When I do this, I get the message "are you sure you want to delete this (names file)?" I respond yes and the files goes somewhere. BUT THEY ARE MULTIPLYING INSTEAD OF BEING DELETED. I NOW HAVE HUNDREDS OF EACH OF THE FILES I WAS TRYING TO GET OFF MY COMPUTER!!!????

I CAN'T BELIEVE I CAN'T DELETE FILES FROM MY DOCUMENTS. ANY SUGGESTIONS? "

I suggested running "scan disk ", and am thinking "system restore "...
    any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

thanks for the quick response pete...

it seems running "chkdsk" resolved the issue, altho she says she can't highlight and delete multiple files...
i had read the thread you pointed me to, but it didn't seem to be the same problem...
i'll repost if we stumble on a final solution, maybe it can be of help to someone else...

    Hello trouble_nc,

"I just clicked and dragged a file to the recycle bin on the left to delete it. "

A side issue: if I right click on a file/folder I want to delete, I get a choice of delete - so I'm wondering why the "drag" into the Recycle Bin which can get awkward. Awkward because you have to either minimize the drive window or bring up the two-pane Explorer window.

Now I realize that everyone has their own way of doing things - picked up from someone else or started in a earlier version of Windows.

    Regards - Charles
