hi team im trying to speed up my startup.
and so far ive tweaked it as far as i can .
    now my Q
at start up my compt goes through a memory test
and this takes quite some time .
am i able to stop this test with out compromising my
    compt.
ive looked in the bios .
and i cant find a fix
my bios is an Award bios modular v6.00pg
    and i have a 1gig mobo.
or do i have to live with it,
i can stop it by hitting esc
but ineed to have it turned off at boot time.

Moving this to hardware from XP. I do think it is a BIOS setting and if it is happening that early in the boot cycle, it isn't likely to be OS related.

    Hi Marty,
Some motherboards even check the memory twice (ZZzzZZ!).

If it seems to be an actual problem, check it with the memory diagnostics in my signature.

Mobos from around that era liked to have the largest stick of RAM in the first slot. Although, some seem to like a single stick in one of the other slots. Everest (and also Sandra) in my signature has memory benchmarks and will give you information about the memory modules and the other parts of your system.

For speed look in the BIOS settings for "Quick POST ". Although this setting will mean that if you change hardware, it will not be recognized properly until you change the setting back.

Find and download the motherboard manual if you do not have it already. It should have some information that will help you now or in the future.

go into your BIOs, and check again, you need (i think) to find NVRAM settings. find that, and i think that you can disable this or at least subdue it. i can't access my other pc's BIOS right now, so unfortunately i can't remember exactly the sequence you have to follow.

another thing to try is: www.blkviper.com

go and check out his site, follow his directions TO THE LETTER, and disable some services that start on start-up of the pc.

I thought about setting my BIOS to Quick POST, but decided against it: 1) because I would have to go back to normal POST when adding new hardware; 2) because if there was a hardware problem there would be no POST beeps to tell me what the cause was.

    My solution:
I press the power button then go to get a snack or beverage (hopefully a Steinlager :D ). When I return, the desktop is waiting.

ok team at last after 3-4 days i got it
    set properly .
with this mobo i felt it was the language
    i didnt understand .
wel after 6 times in the bios i finaly got it right
    in the bios
i went to advanced bios feature.
scrolled to quickpower on, self test
and set it to fast .
and now i have no mem test
i found this in pete_c s post and mattmans post
so if any one needs this fix .
depending on your mother board and bios
    so thanks all
i thought it may have been understanding the language.
