    I just installed NS7.0

Looks pretty darn good for only 15 minutes uses. Better ( at least to me ) than the older ones.

My only problem of concern at the moment is that the .WAV files in my Christmas page do not play.

The .MID fliles play fine. And graphics seems to be fine.

I did not install all parts.

    Look here

    BillyBob

    PS
This is being written from NS7. So I hope it works.

    Hi BillyBob,

Really cheerful holiday site, with lots of music, etc. Your wav sound overlaps the midi file, just a bit.

I use Netscape's LiveAudio plugin (npaudio.dll) to play embedded wav files.

The file is available on Holger Metzger's Netscape/Mozilla web site

If you have more questions, let us know! BTW, Netscape 7.01 is due out very soon, and has already been leaked on Netscape's ftp site. It is reported to be even more stable than 7.0. Comes with a new and improved popup blocker.

    Thank you very much

Works better. On the first page the they do overlap a little more than I would like but I can live with that.

Unless you have some way to put a delay in between.

On the New Year page the main first .wav plays OK evne though it does overlap a little. But the others don't seem to play ( or at least I do not hear them )

But in general I like it.

Thanks again for the help in improving things a little.

    OK folks.

In trying some thing new I must have done something wrong.

After I installed NS7 I started having shutdown and bad restart problems.

This only seemed to happen after using NS. If I did not use NS all seemed to be well.

But I must also add that I tried installing Real Player. I know from past experience with RP that it can be problematic too.

But for now I have unloaded both NS & RP.

But I do have to say that for the little time I did have NS installed it seemed to be a great improvement over earlier versions. And seemed to be faster then IE.

Also NS does ( always has really ) seem much better at the downloading of files.

But then again NS is no different then anything else. It has to be installed and set properly in order to work properly.

    Hi BB

Sorry NS7 didn't work out for you. I'm sure if you stuck with it a bit, though, Ramona could have figured it out!

By the way I liked your newyear page's version of AuldLangSyne

    Hi Alice

Thanks for the kind words but I do not believe that is was NS7 that was the problem.

It was more likely an OPERATOR error ( a dumb one at that ) LOL

When I have had problems with some software before and then turn right around and do it AGAIN ????

Huh Oh. I am sorry I forgot, It ain't my fault. It must be NS or Windows.

Do you think I should re-format my HD so I can start clean and do it all over again ? Stupid mistakes and all.

BTW. This reply is arriving at your locataion courtesy of Windows Help BBS, BillyBob and NS7.

    Ramona

No problems yet. So far it is purrrring right along like a contented pussy cat.

Uses my Eudora e-mail setting just fine. Just gotta find out how to get the address book over.

Just gotta figure out something new.

Gotta go play with NS. Catch Y'all later

I wouldn't know, I've never had to format, myself
but if you do format and reload, leave off the stupid mistakes   :D

If NS7 with the Netscape liveaudio plugin is like Mozilla 1.0.1 then you will find that clicking on a direct link to a midi file (like the one I placed above) wil open the player in a new window. It's a minor bug, I guess, that I put up with because crescendo wouldn't work right for me and I refuse to mess up my system with Quicktime :p

On the address book, I opened the Mozilla Address book, went to Tools/Import, Address Books, next, and Eudora was the first option on the list.

If that doesn't work, then, with NS4.79's abook I had to export it (to any folder) as a text- LDIF file, then import the file into Mozilla Address Book (Tools/Import). Maybe that works with Eudora/NS7?

PS forgot to add, Have Fun!!!

Will TRY to do all possible to leave out the stupid mistakes format or no format :)

Live Audio works as you describe. But More than likely I will only be using that for checking out the Midi before downloading it anyway.

Address ( Nicknames ) from Eudora have been imported and seem to work OK. At least going out.

Well I gotta get out of here and go check on the Stew that I am making for tonights dinner.

Forgot to add. I am having fun

    Hi BillyBob,

How did I know that you would have it all figured out in no time at all! Glad you have tamed Netscape, and have it purring like a kitten.

    Keep us posted!

I suppose it could be called Jumping right in and sink or swim :D

So far I am swimming. And it seems to be doing all that I request of it.

I like not having to look at the same old drab colors everyday.

Th only thing I would kike to do right now is to find out how to sort the Bookmarks.

I fiddled with Manage Bookmarks but no success.

Other than that all seems well right at the moment.

    Hi BillyBob,

See if this works for you:

    Open Bookmarks
    Select "Manage Bookmarks "
Click on the Column heading "Name "
Click again and the sort will be in descending (Z to A) order.

Since the sort is in ASCII order, names starting with a lower-case letter will appear at the end. Capitalize the first letter to get the items in alphabetical sequence.

I tried sorting my bookmarks that way and it does rearrange the folders and individual bookmarks inside the Manage Bookmarks window but not inside the Bookmarks drop-down list displayed from the browser main menu or Navigaton toolbar.

To change the display order when you click Bookmarks on the menubar or toolbar you have to rearrange your individual bookmarks and bookmark folders by hand, within the (unsorted) Manage Bookmarks window.

BB: Here is a page with details on manually sorting your NS7 bookmarks:

    Thanks Alice.

    I found the same thing.

I also tried sorting then the manual way and lost ( mis-placed ) a couple in the process. They were there but not where they were supposed.

    Draging was fine.

    Droping went wrong.

    :) Alias user error :D

But other then that NS7 seems to be doing OK.

And more than likely may stay that way as long as Old BillyBob don't start messing around and upsetting the apple cart.

    Look See

Well, that's happened to me too! You can find them again using Ramona's sort method. You can still create new folders and drop bookmarks into folders while in "sorted by name" mode, by the way. One thing I discovered, if you sort by Location (make sure you have Location selected in View Show Columns) that will place all bookmarks from a specific domain in order. Then drop a whole group of bookmarks into a new folder.

Now if you dropped the bookmark into the wrong folder and don't have a good idea which, then you will have to open all your folders first :(

Mozilla also has a search bookmarks feature (in Manage Bookmarks Tools) and you can save your search (it will create a new folder containing the results) but I don't use it much.

    Forgot to add,

I visited your holiday pages yesterday (found by backtracking from your earlier link) and I've already "stolen" santa, snoman, and angel, besides Auld Lang Syne!

    Hi BillyBob,

From the Netscape 7.0 Release Notes:

"Bookmarks cannot be rearranged if you have sorted them. To rearrange them, select Unsorted from the View menu, or click the Name column header until the arrow disappears. "
    ---

Another suggestion to get sorting to kick in:
first click some of the header blocks, above the listing of Bookmarks. For instance, click on NAME, then try the VIEW menu|SORT choices.
    ---
Both of the above have been covered, more or less...

I've never had a problem with my Bookmarks, as either of you have described. However, I have all my Bookmarks on the Personal Toolbar Folder, arranged in 12 Folders, and then multiple subfolders. When I file a Bookmark, it defaults to the bottom of that folder's list. It is then merely a matter of dragging it to alphabetical order.

    Alice,

You can always copy the bookmarks.html file back to your 4.x profile, re-naming it bookmark.htm and complete your functions there, including, updating and verify the bookmark links for validity.

This may be a wild guess here but, could it have anything to do with the fact that most of my Bookmarks are Imported from IE Favorites ?

The non-imported ones seem to sort just fine.

    Hi BillyBob,

I don't use IE favorites anymore so I am unable to try and recreate your problem.

Have you tried creating a new folder, then copy all the bookmarks from "Imported IE Favs" to the newly created folder. That might work.

If you have a large number of Favorites, then you might want to consider a Bookmark Manager.
