I have an internal Trust (Conexant) V92 internal modem which was working fine until I re-installed XP and now although the latest driver seems to install it, it fails to set up the COM port (previously 3) and in consequence is unable to communicate. I have tried unplugging and re-installing a number of times with the same result and have tried both the driver which came with the modem and which worked fine until the re-iinstallation of XP, as well as the latest driver downloaded from the Trust website. There don't appear to be any IRQ conflicts.
Any suggestions would be most welcome.

I would uninstall everything and install in the "reverse" order.

Go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall (remove) any software.
Go to Phone and Modem Options and delete the listing there.
Shut down and take the card out.

When you reboot, run the installation program from the CD (reboot if it asks you to).

    Shutdown and replace the card.
When you restart it should be detected and installed. Check if it is running on COM 3, if not, do not try to connect to the internet. It should be changed to COM 3 after the next reboot (you can even run the installation program again).

Still stuck, do the uninstalling in Safe Mode.
