    Hi,

I use Outlook Express 6 for accessing and downloading my web based emails.

Since last two days I am facing the following problem :

Whenever I send an email a message comes " Some errors occured while processing the requested tasks......"

The email is shown sitting in the OUTBOX and is not reflected in SENT Items. But in the meanwhile the message is delievered to the sender and it keeps on sending multiple messages.

    Please suggest a remedy.

    Thanks in advance

Mantoj--What version of Windows are you using?
You are having problems with both sending and receiving email.
My first reaction is that you check all your settings in OE Tools|Accounts|Properties|Servers tab with your email provider.
My second reaction is that you click OE File|Folder|Compact All Folders.
And thirdly, have you visited Windows Update recently for the latest updates?
Have you installed any new hard/software just before the problem started?
You may need to repair IE/OE, but the procedure depends on your version of Windows.

Usually, when you send a message and it doesn't show up in your sent items folder the sent items.dbx file is corrupt. By your description of things this may not be the case but it can't hurt to try what I'm about to suggest. Delete or rename your sent items.dbx file and see if that cures the problem. If not, do the same with your outbox.dbx file. Make sure you have OE closed when you do this. After deleting the file(s) OE will create a new one the next time you start it.

If you don't know where the dbx files are located, in OE click tools>options>maintenance. Then click the store folder button. That will show you where they are located.

Thanks Zander and Jim for your time.

The following update is for Jim :

I am facing problem only while sending emails.

I am using Windows XP Professional. Version 5.1

The error message window does not show any specific details in there.

I havent visited any Windows Update in the recent past.

    No New hardware/software was added.

I have checked all settings in OE Tools|Accounts|Properties|Servers tab with the email provider. They are OK.

This problem is being faced in only one of the identity and none of other identities in OE.

Did you try deleting the file(s)?

    Zander,

I saw the path of location where dbx files are located but am unable to reach there as the same path is not accessible in the windows.

Also if I delete sent items folder my whole sent mails will be deleted . How to save them first ?

    Thanks

Make a new folder in OE and move them into that. It's just a matter of dragging them from one folder to another. Open OE and click on your sent items folder. Then, in the right pane, click once on the one at the top of the list. Then, press the shift key and click once on the bottom one in the list. This should highlight them all. Then, click on one of the messages and drag it to the new folder you made. This should move them all at once. Once you've deleted the sent items.dbx you can move them back to the new one later or leave them where they are.

Now, only one problem here. I don't know what you mean by the path is not accessible. Have you tried finding them in windows explorer? If so, what happens when you try to open the folder?

If you just can't locate them you can do a search for "*.dbx" (without the quotes) and when it finds them delete it or them from there.

    Hi Zander,

Thanks again and your inputs were of great help.

    This is the update :

    * I copied all sent mails from OE to a new backup folder on my DESKTOP by drop and drag.

    * I located the dbx files in OE click tools>options>maintenance and then pasted the location in Start>Run...

    * I was able to see the OE Folder storing all mails.

    * I copied the SENT ITEMS *.dbx folder on my desktop as well.

    * Then deleted the SENT ITEMS folder.

    * I restarted OE and to my delight the mails started going and were reflecting properly in SENT ITEMS. This was really awesome....Thanks a lot Zander !

However the situation now arises how to move the previous sent items back into the new Sent Items folder and also to prevent the same problem from reoccurring. The previous sent items are very important for reference and daily use.

Good. Glad to hear that fixed the problem. Problem number 2 is easy enough. Open OE and the folder on your desktop that you saved the emails from the old sent items folder in. Just drag them from the folder on the desktop into the new sent items folder in OE or whichever OE folder you want to use for them. ;)

    Hi Zander,

As per your advice, I added all previously sent emails by dragging them into the new SENT ITEMS folder but the problem starts again.

So I think the only option left now is to make a new subfolder in SENT ITEMS and perhaps add the emails over there.

Can you suggest why did this problem occur at first go ?

Was it due to overcapacity in SENT ITEMS folder ?

I suppose it's possible. How many messages are in it?

OE seems to have problems handling folders when there gets to be to many emails in them. I don't know right off hand what that number might be though. It's also possible I suppose that there's something wrong with one of the emails in it that's causing the problem. Not highly likely but I suppose it might be possible.

I'd move some or all of them to another folder and see how it acts then. If you only move some of them and it still acts up, move some more until the problem stops.

Even better, though you might not want to do it, would be to move them out of OE all together. If they're important to you, it's the safest thing to do in my opinion.

I would not make a sub folder to the Sent Items. I would make a NEW folder completely and call it Saved Sent Items or something similar. Sub folders can cause problems as the folder becomes to large. If you ever had to Delete the Sent folder which is a default folder for OE, you would loose EVERYTHING. If you have many, make 2 or more folders.
