    Hi,
I am once again attempting to assist another friend with a computer issue involving transport driver. Around boot up time, two error messages appear on screen. The first one is, transport driver failed and the other is, Ndhishlp.Sys ... I have tried looking up the cause, solution, etc, etc and can not seem to find it's origin. I have come across other forum sites where this appears to be happening to others with the same end result as I am experiencing. I suspect either the video card and or ethernet card has a role in this but not positive. The computer is an eMachine, Windows 98...Any clues as to what may be contributing to this as everything else is working fine on the computer will be greatly appreciated...

Just to be clear, what is it you want to do? It would be easy to eliminate the error messages, but if you have some networking program that is dependent on this driver, that won't necessarily solve the root problem.

If I recall correctly from a post long ago, you have no knowledge of any program requiring this driver?

It may pay to do a search of the registry to see what you can discover about the application this driver is associated with.

Can you find that file in a search, and if so, do its properties reveal anything about its origin?

    Hi,
I don't remember posting this because usually when I post something I always get good results here and rarely have to come back again. Anyways, incase I did (and don't recall), I do not know what these error messages are related to is one matter I am trying to look into. The other is, if I can not connect the dots sort of speaking (because I think the two, have some type of connection), then yes deleting them will be another option to persue. This particular computer is a stand-alone, no networking involved. Curiosity is killing the cat if you get my drift because as always, before coming here I do my best to seek out what info I can get. When the light at the end of the tunnel is out, I post the situation here. I will also see what I can find in the registry as suggested but will not be able to post back for another day or two on my findings...

It must have been just a similar post.

If the message does not apply to anything you use, delete the references to it in the registry. It can be re-installed if untoward effects result.

    Hi,
No problem, when you read alot of the posts here and work on several computers a week (like I do) it's very easy to forget things. But either way we manage to conquer and I am one who is very grateful for having people like yourself and many others taking the time out to help.

I think I will just do the delete thing from the registry as you suggested. If it's not creating any problems as is, and finding what it's connected too continues to be difficult, then either it will disappear after it's deleted or we will be sure to get another error message saying such a such program can not run because of missing file, etc, etc...

Are you sure that is not NDISHLP.SYS instead?
I suggest using the System File Checker to replace that file and Ifshlp.Sys, these are related to the Netbeui protocol.

    Hi,
I did not try the system file checker, instead I just went into the device manager and under Network Adapters, I deleted "Existing Ndis2 driver ". I took that option because I came across information that it was not needed if the computer was using dial up (which it is).

However, on boot up, instead of those two errors showing up the following appears: rem; by Windows 98 Network...I was still able to access Internet Explorer and Outlook Express. So even thou I'm not sure if the last will be a problem down the road or not, until I'm able to find info on it, it will just have to be another bridge to cross come that time. For now that's the update...

As long as you are up and running that is good.
I think you are getting those two messages from your Autoexec.Bat file, apparently something there was disabled, which is just as well, as 98 really doesn't need anything loading from that file.

    Hi,
Thanks for your reply...This problem has been very interesting because in other forums, several people have posted similiar problems. Their attempts to find a solution has been just as agonizing as mine has been. Well anyways for now, all is well...
