[FONT= "Arial"][SIZE= "2"]Well after viewing the other subjects in the category I can tell my situation isn't all that important but it is a little pesky. For the past couple of weeks my anti spyware scan has been finding a Transponder Spyware which is connected to this:

    RegistryKey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{CE7C3CF0-4B15-11D1-ABED-709549C10000}

Also when I run my Hijack This the entry is listed as this:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {CE7C3CF0-4B15-11D1-ABED-709549C10000} - (no file)

After removing this entry and rebooting I discover it has come back and for the life of me I can't find anything that is causing it to come back. I discovered that it started after I had installed Windows Media Player 11, BETA, which after a couple of hours figured out it wasn't for me so I reverted back to Windows Media Player 10 by doing a System Restore back to a Restore Point I created before I installed the Media Player 11.

I know that this isn't a very big problem since I scan every day but if anyone knows of something that I can do or look for I would appreciate it very much.

    Thanks

    Welcome to the forum.

Would you please run a fresh HJT log file and post it so we can review. Install as instructed below. The fact that the file\BHO keeps returning indicates somehting keeps loading it, so we'll need to look around some.

Please follow these instructions, exactly, for proper HJT installation. Please place HJT into ITS OWN PERMANANT FOLDER. Installation to the desktop is not a proper location.

You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT. (C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe)Move HijackThis.exe into this folder. When you run HijackThis.exe from C:\HJT folder and have it "Fixed checked" it will create a backup file of modifications to use if restore is necessary which is easily accessible.

Well, while I don't see anything out of sorts, it could be that TeaTimer has been allowing the entry back onto the system. We need to disable it then fix and re-enable.

Disable TeaTimer by doing the following:
    • Run Spybot-S&D
    • Go to the Mode menu, and make sure Advanced Mode is selected
    • On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
    • Uncheck Resident TeaTimer and OK any prompts

Run HJT, and place a check next to the following lines, then, with all browsers and windows closed, hit 'Fix checked':

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {CE7C3CF0-4B15-11D1-ABED-709549C10000} - (no file)

Reboot, run HJT, if the above are gone, no need to repost with new log.

[FONT= "Arial"][SIZE= "2"]OK I followed all the instructions and you were right. The 2 entries you indicated did not come back after the reboot. However when I checked the box again for Teatimer and rebooted the entries came back. So I repeated the process and here I am.

I do have a question, however, since I have disabled Teatimer I know the small dialog boxes that usually pop up at boot time do not appear but will the Spybot S & D still be effective. I noticed that in the past when I installed software, for instance, a notification box would come up and ask if I approve of the registry change that is being made, for instance, permitting a program to run at start up. Will I still have this protection with the Teatimer disabled? Or is there some problem with Teatimer that can be corrected.

    Thanks

OK, we will need to remove TeaTimers registry 'snapshot' as they say, so it won't keep returning those entries.

Disable TeaTimer again then browse to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Snapshots and delete all the files inside the folder Snapshots. The Tea timer will take a fresh snapshot and recreate these files when it is restarted.

Run HJT, fix those two entries, reboot, run HJT see if they appear, they shouldn't. Then restart TeaTimer and everything should be ok.

And no, without enabling TeaTimer, you will not get any alerts about changes to the system. So we need that enabled.

Let me know how that works out.
